3D Models for Missing Objects Library
The Glamorous Life of Everyday Hair Objects
Virtual worlds can only be as diverse as the 3D assets used to build them. Commercial marketplaces such as TurboSquid and Sketchfab supply the models behind games, films, and XR experiences, and their catalogs quietly decide what is worth representing. Search for hair accessories and you will find plenty of hats, beanies, and headbands, but almost none of the everyday objects people use to care for their hair at home, such as hair nets, sleeping bonnets, and shower wraps. These soft, thin, and private objects are hard to model and easy to overlook, and their absence reflects whose daily routines are left out, including those of Black people, women, and service workers.
To fill this gap, we 3D scanned a set of everyday hair objects and contributed them to the Missing Objects Library, a free, curated collection of scanned 3D models created by Profs. Asma Kazmi and Jill Miller. Our cabinet, The Glamorous Life of Everyday Hair Objects: Domestic Functional Hair Appendages, presents five objects: a hair towel, a satin-lined sleeping bonnet, a cooking hair bonnet, a beard guard, and a terry cloth face-wash headband. Each is worn by a classical statue of Venus, Oya, Poseidon, or Hebe under bright neon light. The playful pairing blurs the line between public monument and private routine, celebrating objects that are essential yet rarely seen.

Oya’s Sleeping Bonnet
This item is a satin-lined hair bonnet with a colorful flower pattern. Suitable for rest, doing chores, or simply relaxing, the bonnet is excellent for maintaining Afro-textured, natural, and curly hair types. It is donned by Oya, a powerful rain deity in Yoruba mythology signifying powerful weather patterns and transformation.
Poseidon’s Cooking Hair Bonnet
This item is worn to prevent strands of hair from contaminating food during meal preparation, offering a practical solution for maintaining hygiene in the kitchen. It is glamorously displayed by Poseidon, Greek god of the sea.
Poseidon’s Cooking Beard Guard
Similar to the cooking hair bonnet, this item prevents stray beard hairs from mixing with food during preparation. Modeled by Poseidon, it is also commonly worn by kitchen staff.

Hebe’s Face Wash Headband
This convenient accessory is made out of absorbent terry cloth material. It is designed to hold back hair and keep it away from the face during cleansing routines. Donned by Hebe, Greek goddess of youth and vitality, it is a must-have for ensuring a mess-free skincare experience.
